Bone exposed

He’s doing great today. He did scratch at his face a little and his beak bled for a minute or two, but after that was cleaned up he was fine.

Now he’s all cozy on the couch, like he owns the place. :thWho’s going to tell him otherwise though?

His beak has developed this bruising almost on the tip. I believe it’s from him pecking at things, for example he pecks at the rim of his food bowl sometimes. It doesn’t seem to be bothering him or tender at all. I keep it clean and try to monitor him to keep him from bumping it or pecking hard things.

Could it possibly be new beak cells, do you think?

When I've removed rooster spurs, leaving just the fleshy nub inside, the nub first dries out, then hardens, and slowly, new cutaneous material builds up over the nub, thin layer by thin layer.

Since beaks and spurs are made of the same material, it would make sense that this is what's happening. I would continue caring for it in the same efficient manner as you have been, and he should be fine.

It could be. It’s hard to the touch and isn’t bothering him, so that’s a high possibility. I’ll keep an eye and see if anything else develops or worsens and keep updating!

I would spray some Banixx on it. No feeling to it, wont sting. Its an antibacterial, antifungal good for all animals and humans. Also, you can feed your baby some yogurt too.
