Ok today while turning off a hose I had my two submissive roos try to start to crud with me by dropping wings and flapping them for attention all while invading my bubble. My problem child roo has been an angel and gives me a 10 foot bubble. I think these two have decided he is an omega now and are trying to move up the ranks they are crowing more.

But as they have decided to act like jerks I'll do the same. We had near 80's today after a pretty brutal cold snap so think they are just going into springtime breeding behaviors for this Sumatra breed. I really hate running them off the porch by showing up and just dominating them or running them down, but it serves the purpose of reminding them who the dominate roo in the family is.

I really hate roo behaviour and hate being forced to emulate it even more. I am starting to think I might be better served training my dogs to just run them down for instant karma, but don't know.

I am just musing here but using the dogs would be easy, as they are so easy to train. Training roos is just a big pain.

At this point I have three cockrels that have been displaying agressive behavior, one seems sorted again this week, the other two just started acting out today. I was a major jerk to the two newly misbehaving ones and they are banished from the porch.

The dogs are easily trained to run them down on a command without injuring them. Also the dogs are capable of understanding that they leave them alone unless told otherwise.

At this point I don't have a good breeding candidate unless I break their idea it is ok to challenge me.

Once dogs get the idea that chasing chickens is a good idea, they are hard to 'untrain'. I'd just eat the cocky buggers - like begets like. Keep the less aggressive cockerel for breeding.
I am getting the idea however that I have 3 roos and 3 roos too many for this breed. I love my gals they are great to have around and tame enough to share space with on the porch. I just find the roosters of this breed to be pretty worthless now that the raptors are starting to move north again.

I'm so sorry to report I have decided they just aren't worth the effort any longer. They are harassing my hens entirely to much and I want the hens to have a relaxed lifestyle.

This morning again while putting out feed I was challenged again(bonehead dropped a wing and wing flapped himself into the water bowl and trapped himself). So I have just decided they can go to a deserving family's crock-pot. Craigslisted them at https://brownsville.craigslist.org/zip/d/3-black-sumatra-roosters/6475448237.html

I am willing to bet my phone will be busy in the morning.
