bonjour!

thatnks for the welcome. i've been looking around BYC a couple of weeks now but finally came to the forum to ask some questions... which by following the standard advice "search first, ask questions later" i've already had answered... except one: a magazine article i just read says you should avoid having TWO chickens because they would fight. well, two chickens is what we intended to get. any advice?

from Twentynine Palms in the California high desert. You'll find lots of friendly and knowledgeable folks here who are always ready to help. Enjoy!

I think they are probably referring to roosters... Two roosters will try to work out who will be dominant.

I agree, that's likely referring to roosters. 2 roosters will brutally fight. 2 hens may spar a little if they don't know each other, but they'll likely become friends. I doubt it will be much of an issue for your hens. They'll be so amazed by their new 'freedom' - being able to move, to walk around in a run - they won't be worried about fighting. I applaud you for adopting these hens. I've heard a couple people on here say their rescued/adopted battery hens are the sweetest birds. Good luck!

And once again,
