So yesterday I learned that Apricot is actually a rooster. Today I came home and heard what a thought was a terrible distress noise from one of my chickens and it was Apricot crowing for the first time. Oh my gosh my neighbors are going to shoot me. So anyway, now Im eyeballing my precious Russian Orloff. This was also supposed to be a HEN. Is this one a rooster too????
Im keeping this one no matter what. Apricot is going to injure one of my silkies so I have to find a home for her. I mean him. Dangit! He is relentless even with me standing right there. Do roosters start crowing at 4 months old?

Well I was able to find a home for Apricot today, my buff Wyandotte. I suppose they will have to give him a new name. There is a hatchery in Gilroy that I called yesterday and the lady said I would have to call back and talk to the owner tomorrow. I decided not to call back and just show up with my chicken which turned out to be a good strategy. Im pretty sure if I would have called they would have said no. They have a lot of roosters and were pretty reluctant at first, but after I told them he was just four months old and they saw how tame and pretty he was they decided they would take him. I think my poor silkie is more relieved than I am. When I came home she was already out in the run walking around even tho shes broody again.
I hope I am starting now finally to see the light at the end of the chicken drama tunnel. Today I was able to make some progress on putting up my bird netting. Today I had THREE hawks flying overhead eyeballing my chickens. I think the first guy went and got his buddies thinking they were going to get some dinner.
I think my cats are jealous of my chickens.
I caught one of my other cats sleeping in my new chicken coop a couple of weeks ago.
