Book Collectors????

My book collection is my pride and joy! My family traveled for a few years for my husband's work and in each new location we'd scope out all the used book stores. At the moment our house isn't big enough to store all of my books (3/4 are in the upper story of FIL's shop). Hubby plans to make me some floor to ceiling bookshelves. My interests are varied so my library is pretty eclectic. I'm with you, though, Smartychick...the old classics are my favorite. I'm also well on my way to owning all of Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels. What really excites me is finding old out of print books cheap...especially Stella Gibbon's novels! Cold Comfort Farm and Nightingale Wood have been reprinted but most of her others go for hundreds of dollars. Of course, I'd never pay that much so I have to keep an eye out for cheap copies. I'm glad I'm not the only one who loves the old book smell...my family thinks I'm crazy when they catch me sniffing the pages of old books!

Oh, and for Christmas I got a collectors edition of "The Hobbit" by JRR Tolkien, hardcover and the dust jacket is a reproduction of the original first ed. designed by the author, but no heavenly smell

UssChicago1-I don't know what the value of your books are....but I have some serious book envy!

I love old children's books and have a number of them and I treasure them all.

I also love OLD Bibles, especially ones that have been written in. Not just Births, Marriages, or Deaths, but in the margins, etc.... At auctions you can often find old Bibles. I have found many with old notes and mementos tucked inside....just love them!

My latest favorite type of book that I seem to be collecting are memoirs that also have recipes inside. Two of my favorite genre's all in one! I read a lot of Women's Studies types of books. I love books a bout other cultures and all sorts of history. I really enjoy reading cook books that have narrative as well as recipes.

My husband said he fell in love with me because I was a bibliophile.....and has supported my habit since we met. He knows that to get back in my good graces all he has to is buy me a book!

I am thrilled that all of my kids have developed a love of reading too.

usschicago1, all your books are over 75 years old, meaning they are antiques.

they are not in ideal condition but are still valuable. I'm not an antiques expert but so I can't give you a number, but I personally would pay up too $25sh for some of those because I can see binding fall apart and loose pages (but they may be worth more).
