Are there Any books that discuss in real world application how to breed for feather color, SOP, egg color, hybrid crosses, sex linkage, etc? Or will I have to find individual books on each of those single topics? Would also appreciate the book being somewhat easy to understand for beginners but include enough information to be useful.

Thanks for your help 😉 in advance

A lot of breeding for certain traits (egg color, feather color, and SOP) is to first, find that trait you want then select the birds that best exhibit that trait and breed them together. A lot of doing that basically. I don’t breed birds for specific traits or breed in general but that is what I have heard from friends who do breed. I am not a very good person when it comes to in depth with this stuff, so hopefully others will chime in that are much more knowledgeable! :)

I would love to have a deeper understanding of all the genes in Poultry concerning feather color/type, egg color, and how they all interact with one another when bred together. Would like to have an over view of what's possible with sex linkage, breeding out defects, breeding towards better birds, what can be bred out, how the colors interact with react other. And I would also like some extensive knowledge on Breeding for disease and illness resistance and resiliency.

I've seen people talk about sex link hatches using dark/light skin pigmentation and would like to know more about that.

Basically everything! Lol! I want to learn about EVERYTHING! 😂

Here is a link to a post I made in the past, when someone else asked about learning chicken genetics. It especially applies to the genetics of feather colors & patterns:
https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...lavender-orpington-hen.1610339/#post-27462412

A book called "Genetics of the Fowl" by F.B. Hutt, published in 1949, contains a large amount of information (later research found that he was wrong about a few things, but large amounts of it is still considered to be correct.)
At the present time, it is available to read for free on the website of Cornell University:
https://digital.library.cornell.edu/catalog/chla2837819

Hutt's book talks about many genes in poultry, with only one chapter talking about feather colors/patterns.

This thread mentions another book specifically on chicken color genetics, but I haven't personally read it.

This post mentions several other books. Again, I have not personally read them.

Regarding sex-linkage in particular, here are several posts I made in different threads:

(Some other people have made equally useful posts, but I have mostly linked to my own posts because they were easier for me to find.)

Thank you for this. Really appreciate it. Going to read through the links you left this evening 🥰
