Border Collies, Australian Shepherds, All Herding breeds, Tell Me About Yours

That's a cool looking breed too.

Yea I thought so too. :) and I think they might be the one I researched and wanted instead of Kelpies. I think I mixed them up. I think I decided Kelpies were too crazy for me and/or was paranoid/superstitious about the name and myth :lau  but they are cool dogs too. So many of the herding breeds are. :)

I've been around an awful lot of these types of dogs, and I have to say that, other than their looks (beautiful), they are not really my cup of tea.
I have two neighbors with Border Collies. They bark NON STOP when they are outside. It's not a normal bark either. It's shrill, like screaming. I can't stand it.
I find the females extremely bossy, territorial, and often nasty towards other dogs. I've also noticed that the females bark more. Is it obvious that I prefer male dogs? :D

@oldhenlikesdogs, how does your all female crew get along? I've honestly never experienced a successful pack of females. I'd love to hear your techniques!

Regardless, it sounds like you love these dogs, and have a hefty amount of experience with them. I have no doubt that whatever dog you choose will be set up for success.

I'm still deciding on what breed I will choose. It's more important because I do keep a pack, and each member needs to fit in correctly.

I've always preferred female dogs. They can be bossy and pushy, but so am I. I make sure I'm the boss of the bunch. I like girl power.

I practice a modified Cesar Milan technique. My dogs are rewarded for good behaviors and addressed for bad behaviors generally with mostly raising my voice a bit, maybe a gruff growl noise, and I stand tall and confident. I use dog body language, I can read it well too and can see troubles brewing.

Some days everyone gets along fine, sometimes there are small discussions I need to address, most days everyone loves each other. Exercising them enough can make every dog a good tired dog. We do pack walks. No leashes or collars. They can be dogs. We own 40 acres in the country, so I can do that.

It can be hard to describe. I just am top dog and I expect my dogs to listen when necessary. I definitely don't use any capital punishment. I control their space and movements at times and that's enough generally. Something as simple as blocking them from bolting out a door can give you power. I'm with my dogs almost always. We have some pretty spoiled dogs that are well cared for.

Of course as puppies I use bits of hot dogs to bribe and train the basics. :) As they mature me and my girls start to correct those pushy puppy behaviors. I use my pack to raise each pup. Having multiple dogs for me makes it easier to raise puppies.

It takes me months and sometimes a few years to get dogs to the point where they are good. I raise them like people raise children. Every day is a teaching day until they understand it. Some get it sooner than others.

Hopefully that all made sense. :) My life revolves around my dogs. They are incredible souls.

But really, I think the amount of time and space your dogs have with you makes all the difference. I am the first to admit that the aforementioned dogs are loved, but perhaps not in ideal homes for their activity levels.
Your situation sounds amazing. I hope to have something similar one day. Then I can get all the Dobermans I want and let them run.

I was born to have dogs. I have been blessed in many ways. Hot dogs still works wonders even in the older dogs.
