Border Collies, Australian Shepherds, All Herding breeds, Tell Me About Yours

Not so much a herder, though she is a herding breed dog. Our Red Heeler (Australian Cattle Dog) is extremely good at being a mouser/rat catcher. Protecting feed and feathers!

I wouldn't have guessed they would want to rat, but it is a job. Good looking dog. :)

I think that Shelties, cute as they are, are very small as 'farm dogs', given the coyotes and larger critters out there.

I am alone here a lot, so I also need dogs that can give at least the appearance of protection. I feel safe with my Aussie about. So I probably for now get the bigger dog, but I'm going to keep shelties in the back of my mind for a future dog. In my little bit of looking around at them they are sharp looking and are small enough to qualify as a small breed to me.
