Border Collies, Australian Shepherds, All Herding breeds, Tell Me About Yours

A bit late on this but I think with cats most people do tend to just go with strays or find one on Craigslist or a shelter or whatever cause to a lot of people a cat is just a cat. They’re really looking for specific personality traits or a certain size or coat type or whatever like with dogs and they don’t need a specific kind of dog for a specific job, etc. they just want a companion and a lot of people also, oddly, don’t want to pay purebred prices for a cat like they will a dog. At least this is just what I’ve observed/noticed.

Obviously cats do vary and they all have different personalities but I find people don’t usually go searching for that.

And even myself find myself thinking some of the prices are really expensive and not wanting to pay it.

There are some breeds I eventually want to try but probably won’t. Idk, I think mutt kitties are great and I like dogs more so would rather spend the money on a dog or more chickens or goats or something. :lau

I did buy Luna from a local pet store that’s since closed but she wasn’t a special breed or anything. They had a lot of kittens.

She was also older than they said and had a bit of a weird walk and purr so likely returned. But I love her just the same. :love

Our last kitty we adopted along with his brother. Someone had dumped them in a bag behind a restaurant. Don’t know what breed they were. Both orange striped but one was short hair and one was longhair. We didn’t have the longhaired one very long because at about a year old he got out one day and never came back. :( but we had Mittens a while and he was a great cat. :love

I think for cats I’ll probably always just adopt or take in strays or whatever.

With dogs I’ve done and probably will always do both breeders and rescues.

:lau I noticed! You’re making me want one more and more. :lau
Doesn't help that I'm so excited. :celebrate

The question you need to ask is tail or no tail, although some are now leaving the Aussie tail if you ask, and what color dog do you want?

I’m excited for you!!! :celebrate

And I don’t mind either way. Although I have read sometimes other dogs can be more aggressive to tailless dogs because they have trouble communicating/understanding them. :/

But I don’t mind either way.

Color... well, my absolute dream would be a black tri male. :love

But I’d take whatever the best puppy for me was lol

I happen to own a border collie lab mix

I have known several BC/Lab mixes ad they have all been wonderful dogs! I think its a terrific mix.

@Folly's place

Working border collies seem to be hard to come by but there seem to be several Aussies but still not that common whereas herding dogs were everywhere in Florida.dogs.

This might be helpful if you go this route. http://www.nebca.net/

This came across my feed today. The writer makes excellent points IMO.
As we are looking to add new dogs to our lives, there are more things to consider than the showcased qualities of any given breed.

He makes some good points, but I disagree with some of his others. Genetics does matter to some degree in behavior and temperament and while its true mixed breeds are less prone to certain health issues that pop up with smaller gene pool they are not guaranteed to be healthier or have a better temperament. But again, good thoughts overall.

I do not think there is anything wrong with that at all. :hugs
Dogs are such an important part of our lives and, to me, they are family and I am sure they are to you too. Granted, not everyone will grieve for that long and for some people it is shorter, but some people it is longer. It’s a process and the process is different for everyone and I don’t think there is any one set timeframe for grieving or anything wrong with grieving for a long time. :hugs
You’re not crazy and there’s nothing wrong with you. :hugs

100% agreed!

I hope I don't jinx things. :flView attachment 1996085
