Can you tell me what a bored chicken will do? I have JG and they seem to enjoy their free range time, but occasionally I go out to find them all back in the coop house. Normal? They also will come running to the gate when I open it. I've only had chickens since Monday, so not sure what is normal behavior.

Sounds normal to me. They may go into the coop near dusk in preparation for the night, to get out of a high wind or lots of rain, to get away from a predator, etc. Mine go in at the hottest part of a sunny summer day because it is cooler and there is a better breeze in there. They might just go in for a midday nap. They tend to stay together, so when one wants to go in, the rest are likely to follow.

Their coming when you appear probably indicates they are accustomed to someone bringing their regular food or a treat.

They can be active a good part of the day, but they also 'lounge' around...more so when it's cold.

They come running to the gate because they know you are the 'bringer of food'.

All sounds pretty normal to me. Enjoy!

Ok! Good. I was hoping it normal behavior and not a problem with boredom. :) thanks!!!
