We live in central Ky and after an ice storm last week we are left with frozen grass and ice on the ground. My girls have a secure, covered run but I usually like to let them out in their chicken yard for a while every day. Well, my girls don't like cold , wet feet (such princesses) so they have been stuck in their coop and run. Today I bought them a bale of straw. The idea was to put down a couple of flacks and sprinkle some scratch in it so they could enjoy spreading it around. My girls are only 20 wks old so they have never seen straw before. I placed the flakes down and you would have thought I had placed a live hawk in there. Have mercy of all the screaming and flying that started. But after a min. They realized the straw was NOT there to kill them and they found yummy treats. It was quite enjoyable for me watching them scatter the straw and the girls were not bored. At least for today.
