I haven't had my chickens for very long, perhaps 4 months, but it seems to me they get bored very easily. We just hung a swing perch for them, but I would sure be open to any tricks or suggestions you have to help keep them occupied.
They are in a chicken run about 8x14 and we don't let them out because we have so many preditors around, especially hawks.
When we first placed the 4 hens we had plenty of grass in the run but that sure didn't last long .....I also tear grass up and scatter in the coop for them just for some variety.
