I am looking at cover crops for inside flight pens such as millet, sorghum, corn etc. I have a wild bird feeder area and buy boss by the 50 lbs.

I did a quick germination check on the BOSS seeds and the rate is above 90%.

So my question(s)

1) how does sunflowers work for cover in pens?

2) What about a mix of sorghum, millet and corn?

3) What is best for pheasant? Bobwhite?

I like to use what I think is called switch Grass that comes back every year pretty good and has a nice cover for the winter. Next spring I am going to add more millet they go pretty crazy over that stuff.

Nice pen there franzens.

Yes, some perennial plant would be best I suppose. My plan is to be able to run my 4-wheeler around between batches of birds and plant early spring. Hopefully the plants will have enough start that the new birds won't eat the sprouts.
