Boston Terrier Returned!

I have a friend with a boston female and a sister in law with a male.
We call them Boston Terrorists for a reason LOL.

We have a Boston mixed with Fox Terrier. Buster. He is a really good very cute little guy. Loves to go out and play fetch all day if you let him. Teach the dog basic obediance right away then work on some tricks. Very smart, wants to please, will work for treats. He does think he is a big dog though. Copper is our 65 lb. mutt and him and Buster play all out.

Driving to VT tomorrow to "I hope" pick up a Boston. They are not quite 6 weeks old, the mother has called it quits and the owner can't handle the puppies by herself, she is exhausted and therefore wants them out of her house!!! Hopefully all will go well, at such a young age, I know we will need to socialize her.

I wonder if this is her first time raising pups, all moms are somewhat done as soon as those sharp little teeth come in! By about three weeks the owners are the primary care providers and momma dog happily becomes the supervisor!

I agree that six weeks is a little young, but just like with a new baby don't let her get overwhelmed with too much activity. Make sure she has a quiet place for lots of naps - they still sleep a lot. If you can keep her on the same food for at least a week or two, easier on her tummy. A vet visit the first week is always a good idea with any new puppy.

Five puppies, my 12 year old son and I picked out the most active/inquisitive of the females. Called the vet on the way home, they don't really want her in there for 2 weeks unless the puppy or I have issues, they told me to keep her away from all dogs, just in case she hasn't developed immunities from mom, and bring in a stool sample. All the puppies are being fed milk mixed with mashed potatoes, so that is wrong!!!! I bought science diet puppy food, put it in a rubber maid storage "cover" all my bowls are too deep, and watered it down to mush, she gobbled it right up and has kept it down for well over an hour. Presently she who has yet to be named is snoozing, I will take pictures as soon as I can find my camera...or wait for dh to come home from work and use his! I tried my hardest to convince the owner to keep the puppies another week, I called a vet in VT and asked what the legal age was and they told me that 8 weeks was "suggested", in NH it is the law and the vet here pointed it out to me! Our cat just looked, he is clueless as to what it is!!!
This was the second litter, she had 7 the first time, 6 this time, but lost one....

Cheryl, your pet store might carry some puppy formula. I know that with my Kippy, when we transitioned her over from the bottle to "real food", we made up a gruel with rice cereal and the puppy formula. Definitely keep her away from other dogs - I wouldn't even let her go outside to potty yet, just get some wee pads. One other suggestion - POST PICS OF YOUR NEW DARLING ASAP

Congrats on your new baby! Can't wait to see pics. We adore our Boston, and couldn't ask for a better flock guardian! Even when she is inside she has an ear out for any out of place ba-gawks! She's the best! And she was not a puppy when we got her. She kills frogs and squirrels, but we told her the chickens were babies, and she protects them.

I hope yours does as well as ours does!
