Hi! I’ve had a duo of Cochins for about 18 months, and after a great run of no issues and solid laying, sadly one of them was attacked and killed by a predator in January due to a faulty lock on the coop :(. The survivor saw it happen and mildly injured her comb in the incident. Other than that, she was just super shaken (obv!) and we felt so awful about it that we got her a new friend very quickly. Newbie is about 8 mos old and a Maran. They get along well, but first hen has been laying very sporadically since the loss of her pal. New hen *was* laying nicely but more or less quit doing so after a series of rubber eggs and double yolks. This was in part due to the fact that we screwed up and bought the wrong kind of food but corrected it after a few weeks and they’ve since been on organic layer feed and free choice oyster shells, plus various treats and all the free range garden items they could ask for. So now we are getting maybe 2 eggs a week out of newbie and none from the original one. Interestingly part of the comb on the surviving hen was damaged and became black and eventually fell off and is regrowing. Combs on both look nice and red to me. They are seemingly both healthy. Any tips on what to do next are most appreciated.

Welcome to BYC! @bittyflock

Could be several things...lots of stress with the lost flock member, new bird addition(affects both birds), change in feed.
First is, do they free range?
Might be laying out in range area.

How long since feed change and what is protein percentage of new feed?
Treats may seem 'healthy' but can dilute the nutrition and vitamins in layer feed.

I'd cut the treats way down and keep them confined to coop and run for a week, see if that helps.
