Botulism? Has anyone had a bird survive?

PS: the post someone made inquiring about honey was not to suggest it as a treatment, but to suggest it might have been a source of the botulism itself. Raw honey can carry various spores, which is why it is never given to infants. At least I think that is what the original poster had in mind. So no, do not give her honey.

Thanks for the continued support. I do remember now that you shouldnt ever give honey to infants. Thank you..I plan on trying a remedy someone else posted...molasses and water. Have you heard of this?

I'm sorry, I don't know anything about it. I'm definitely no expert. Have you tried googling chickens and botulism? There must be more info online somewhere.

Ive googled and the links that have already been provided for me are THE ones I have found. I have decided to post pictures. Maybe this can help with the diagnosis...I really do believe though its botulism. It seems to be neurological problems. Thank goodness she is the only one so far. Preparing for another rough night of no sleep nursing moonlight. She finally started drinking again. Seems to really like the molasses water and she did nibble on a very tiny amount of apple that I finely chopped. Actually the apple seemed to perk her up a bit. She is most comfortable in our arms. There she seems at peace and sleeps comfortably. Anyways here are a few pictures for everyone. Hopefully this may help. Please notice how she is now tucking her head all the way down and between her legs. She will back herself into a corner and stand like the last picture. Looks like she is standing on her head.

Thank you Red Hen I should have been more clear on that, honey leads to Botulism poisoning in babies. I suspect it would affect a chick in the same way. I hope your bird makes it CaliChick, im rooting for it!

Hi everyone please read below! Thank you for all the support. You have all been fantastic!

dlhunicorn I want to thank you! You have been so supportive and helpful the last few days. Me and my little moonlight thank you! I took some extra time this morning and clicked on your link..Dragonflies and Dandelions...Wow! If only I had taken the time soon to check out your site. Better late than never. Im 100% postive that my chicky is injured with Crookneck and does not have botulism. This is a relief to some degree! I read all the symptoms and this is it. Every single symptom she has!

1. Tucking the head between legs (yes)
2. Tucking the head between legs and backing up (yes)
3. Tucking the head between legs and tumbling over (yes)
4. Walking in circles (yes)
5. Holding the head to one side (yes)
6. Loss of balance (and YES)

So because of your site and the info posted I can now rest at ease with my other chicks. I was really worried about an outbreak of botulism and losing all my girls and my roo.

I happened to have some predisone on hand. My girls are asthmatics. I tried calling a few vets to get it prescribed in the exact dosage needed but the only way they will prescribe it is if I bring her in. So I am taking charge and guess working here a bit. Though I am being real careful not to overdose her with the steriod. I did purchase the baby parrot food and she will be getting this in a bit as well as some bird electrolytes. Doing everything your site says to the T! I hope to see an improvement in her the next few days...She is still with us so I guess IM doing something right! Thank you!
