Hey everybody of BYC. Today I’m talking about the maximum chicken limit in Bountiful, and also making roosters legal here. Right now, the maximum chicken limit is 8. I think this should increase. If you want or need more eggs, more chickens should be allowed. Also, according to chapter 22 of Chickens in Single-Family Residential Zones of Bountiful laws, it is “unlawful to keep a rooster or a crowing hen” [Chickens in Single-Family Residential Zones, Chapter 22, Bountiful Laws]. I believe that if we make this legal, we should also increase the limit of chickens in Bountiful, if somebody wants to fertilize their eggs.

Anyway, please let me know what you think in the comments! I really hope we will be able to get this published.

P.S. I have no idea what I am doing I’m just an 8th grader, but I do want this to happen

I’m just an 8 grader too and we went to our board of health and acquired a permit, we have 6 chickens and that is more than enough, you don’t need a rooster for eggs. I think the limit should increase but if you’re considering getting chickens for eggs then 8 is more than enough(that’s, depending on breed, more than 3 dozen eggs a week) roosters should only be considered for breeding and/or protection while free ranging. :welcome

8 could be enough...unless your family is like my good friends...they have 11 kids, which makes 13 in their family.

They go through a lot of eggs! Though more than 8 would be a lot for most city lots. Also, some people like chickens for pets and get bantum, or decorative breeds that lay very little. Another thing to think about, it that roosters help keep order in a flock, and a good one will stop infighting or picking within the hens. That being said, I think there should be a "unless noise complaints are filed" clause with any rooster, just like with dogs.

G’Day from down under MasterChickenWarrior :frow Welcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

With regards to your poll, we are only allowed to have 6 hens, no roosters which works out OK for me. Having a restriction helps curtail chicken-math ;)
