Bourbon red hatch

Wow, they are beautiful! I can't wait for them to grow up too! The poults I just hatched are very friendly, I took a video of them last night after my wife put a mirror in their brooder. We had a good laugh! I'll post it on here after I get it set up on you tube.

beautiful! do they fly? i would like my brs to stay in my yard..my fence is about 5 foot high. the feed store i bought them from said i would need to clip their wings...but i am finding out they are not so necessarily schooled in turkeys..lol

I'm sure they do fly, I've been raising chickens for years now and have been clipping their wings and I'm sure turkeys are the same. If you want them to stay in the fenced in area you'll have to do something. I'm just starting out with turkeys and really don't know much about them. You may want to start a thread asking just that question, there are lots more knowledgeable people on here than me. Kuntrygirl is the one to ask. Hope this helps.

The humidity was about 40 percent during my hatch, I took kuntrygirls advice throughout the whole process. I am new to hatching turkeys, this was my first and I'm about to start my second hatch and will still follow her way of doing it, she has many years experience with turkeys. She is the one you want to ask, you'll find many of her threads on here. May the turkey Gods be with you!

I found a great hatching chart from a website. I hope that it's ok to post it here.

Is it normal to have the humidity as high as it is in the chart? This is my first time hatching anything so I'm totally freaked out that I'm going to mess them up.

From my personal experience, I do not raise my humidity as high as in the chart. My humidity stays at 40 during the entire incubation process and I have had 100% hatches. A lot of people swear by it and they do have the high humidity and they have successful hatches as well. I think it's a personal preference. Unfortunately, you will have to try to see what works for you but at the same time, you don't want to experiment on your precious eggs and a disaster happens.:/ I can tell you that on my VERY first time hatching turkey eggs, I did the 40 humidity and everything turned out perfect.

What kind of incubator do you have?

Thank you! You will have so much fun with yours. Did you get a chance to post your video yet? I would love to see the little stinkers. :)

Thanks. Yes, mine do fly but they fly around in the yard when they are acting silly and want to show off their flying skills to make others jealous. My fence is 5 feet high and they clear that easily. I have many of them that sleep on the 8 foot chicken coop and in the pecan trees. Mine fly across the fence from the chicken yard into the human yard to walk around and eat the human yard grass. When they are done free ranging in the human yard, they simply fly back over. NEVER in all of the years of me raising turkeys have EVER had a turkey to fly away or run off. And I mean NEVER ! And I don't clip wings. :)

I would hesitate about following what most feed stores tell you to do. They are only there to sell feed and other products and their knowledge about animals is limited.

I have a farm innovators 4200. So far It's been holding a steady temp and humidity. Although the lowest humidity I am able to achieve is ~50%. That is with one small reservoir filled. The humidity here has been crazy low at ~5-10% so i had to put some water in. I think all is going well so far. I candled last night (day 14) and removed 6 of 16 eggs that had no growth. 2 were questionable so I left them in and the other 8 looked good. Considering they were shipped from the other side of the country, and i only ordered 12, I thought it was pretty good. I do hope that the turkey gods are indeed shining down us
