Bourbon red hatch

From my personal experience, I do not raise my humidity as high as in the chart. My humidity stays at 40 during the entire incubation process and I have had 100% hatches. A lot of people swear by it and they do have the high humidity and they have successful hatches as well. I think it's a personal preference. Unfortunately, you will have to try to see what works for you but at the same time, you don't want to experiment on your precious eggs and a disaster happens.:/ I can tell you that on my VERY first time hatching turkey eggs, I did the 40 humidity and everything turned out perfect. What kind of incubator do you have?
I have a farm innovators 4200. So far It's been holding a steady temp and humidity. Although the lowest humidity I am able to achieve is ~50%. That is with one small reservoir filled. The humidity here has been crazy low at ~5-10% so i had to put some water in. I think all is going well so far. I candled last night (day 14) and removed 6 of 16 eggs that had no growth. 2 were questionable so I left them in and the other 8 looked good. Considering they were shipped from the other side of the country, and i only ordered 12, I thought it was pretty good. I do hope that the turkey gods are indeed shining down us

Mine stay put with a 5 foot, until roosting time, then they fly right over. You can clipp the primaries on ONE wing to keep them grounded. THey are less able to get away from predators though.

Kuntry girl-- love your light BR. I can see how the BR was developed from the buff, and then years later buff created from the BR. If you decide to cull, perhaps concider contacting Porters or Sand Hill about another line of buffs. Just a thought. The current buffs are not the old line but a re-created line.

Thanks.

Thanks for the tip on contacting Porters and Sand Hill.

Just saw your post. Most people clip wings but I don't. How old are they and were they hatched at your place or did you get them as older birds? My turkeys can clear a 5 ft fence with no problem. BUT, mine don't run away. They are just nosey and want to see what's going on in another part of the yard. So, they fly BACK into the chicken yard when they are ready.

You have to consider if you have predators in your area. If so, you will need to clip their wings. If you clip their wings, they won't be able to fly away from predators but if you don't clip their wings, they could possibly fly out into the way of a predator.

Tell me about your set up and the age of your birds and where were they hatched.

Thank you kuntrygirl & Arielle..I think I will need to clip their wings because I do see coyotes even during the day. And they have a big house (& safe) to roost in at night. I actually watched a video on you tube, they even used BRs! And thank you for the buff info..I would say that is what's e are
