I am new to turkeys and my 2 babies are Bourbon Reds also.. your story was not only funny and entertaining but made me excited to know what little personalities they have!! My friends cannot understand why I got turkeys for pets..after I have them read that story I think they will understand!! Thank you for sharing!! Chris

to the OP of the thread, I love your story and pics, you really made me lol!

I have a Royal Palm tom and 2 bronze hens, they are real characters for sure.

We have only had them a couple of months and they are quite tame and love nothing better than to hang out with their pet humans. They follow us into the woods to help us cut wood. they follow us down our long lane to check our mailbox.

One of the hens lays her eggs on my concrete porch each afternoon with a very puzzled tom in hot pursuit!

the tom (we called him Thomas) is rather fed up with the bad table manners of our sexlinked chickens. They will steal food right from under him. You can watch him recoiling like a snake when its happening and I know its coming uh oh!
His response is different each time. One time he smacked one with his wing. Another time a chicken was interfering with his dustbath and he bit her, well she ran off squawking.

Last night I threw out some bread for everyone to share and when I looked out a few minutes later I saw Thomas chasing those chickens. it made me laugh. Our roo is quite respectful and one look from Thomas and the roo is off quick!

I love my mini flock of turkeys!

We have 6 eggs incubating right now. 2 more weeks to go.

:)

I'm glad that everyone continues to enjoy my story. I had to go back and re-read it myself. I laughed all over again as I reminisced about what happened.

Good luck to everyone with their new babies, adults and future turkeys. Turkeys are soooooooo fun to have around. :D
