Bowel problem?

How old is she? Do you know when she last laid?
If you have a vet that will do a fecal float test for you, that will check for internal parasites. You will most often not see them in the droppings. The eggs are microscopic in size. Internal parasites can cause runny droppings. Does her abdomen feel bloated at all, between the legs, below the vent?

I don’t think she has been laying for some time. I have three hens like her. They lay green eggs. I have only been getting one egg every day from them. She is only 11/2 yrs old.

I gave her an epsom salts soak this morning. Her abdomen is very swollen and hard. Is there anything else I can do to save this chicken? I'm afraid it is too late.

I would give her some scrambled egg and offer her chicken feed. Don’t give bread, because it can be doughy and cause crop problems. Try to feed mostly chicken feed. A spoonful of plain unsweetened yogurt daily would add some probiotics, and that cannbe mixed into some chicken feed.

It looked like in one picture that she had a blade of grass hanging from her vent, so make sure that she has granite poultry grit available to help her gizzard grind food. Many of my chickens are getting ready to molt, and the summer heat has made them a bit lethargic. At 18 months she is due for her first molt. They stop laying as well. If you havs not wormed your chickens, that might be something you would want to do. Valbazen is good and so is SafeGuard Liquid Goat Wormer. I can give you a dosage. Feel of her crop early in the morning to see if it has emptied overnight. Crops disorders can make them feel poorly.

Is it her lower abdomen that is swollen and hard? That could be from internal laying, lash egg material, or cancer. If it is tight like a drum, fluid or ascites might be a problem. None of those have good outcomes.

I forgot to adress the issue of lice, but yes there is a picture where there are lice eggs seen near the vent. You should be able to see miving lice under her abdomen if you part the feathers. Other chickens in the coop will be affected as well. An affordale treatment is permethrin 10 spray concentrate from your feed store which can be mixed with water in a spray bottle according to label instructions. Lice should be treated every 10 days to get the lice and the newly hatched eggs. Treat the coop and nests as well after removing the bedding.

The man at the feed store told me that diatomaceous earth would get rid of mires. Will it work on lice?

Dietomacious earth won't get rid of either. You need a product with permethrin or the more expensive Elector PSP. Permethrin sprays are widely available and not terribly expensive, and you can get it in poultry dust also. Sprays work better for treating the coop, you can use either on the birds, some examples of products below. Some come ready to use, some liquids are concentrated and have to be diluted before using, there are lots of brands.
