Leah's eggs arrived at my place in great condition despite the USPS pounding on the box. Unfortunately only three developed and only one hatched (the box that arrived the same day had almost everything start developing, and none of them hatched.), but he's the cutest little black cochin ever. It was love at first sight for my dh. Thanks, Leah. I think I had temp issues too because my thermometer was reading wrong. We're getting a new bator or thermostat before spring and I'm trying again.

I love my R-Com 20 bator. It was more $$ but definitely worth it to me. No fiddling with thermometer and hygrometer. Plus, if I take the lid off to candle, it only takes about 5 to 7 minutes to get back to temp and humidity, which is fabulous. Hatches in it have proceeded flawlessly. Highly recommend it!

I also may have an egg or two from silkies, BTW Japanese bantams and Mille fleur d'uccles....but most are broody and not laying.

Hi Leah,

Can you help me out with your pencil marks on the eggs I got from you.

My assumptions are:

S = silkie
M = millie
and the larger eggs are easter eggers, right?

But there are some marked C and some marked BC. Are those cochin and bantam cochin?

Hey Claire....Here is a run down of my shorthand : )

C= bantam cochin
BC= barred bantam cochin
M= Mille fleur d'uccle
J = Japanese bantam
S= Silkie
No markings on large green eggs = EE

I can see some very good development in quite a lot of the eggs that you sent. A few are clear so maybe never fertilized but I'm not at all worried about that. I'm excited to see what will hatch first. It is my first experience with buying hatching eggs so I have another question. Do I count the 21 days from the day that I put them in the bator, or the day that you mailed them to me?
