I have two male bq chicks. They are 6 weeks old, one blue and cinnamon, one silver. They were incubator hatched, and reside temporarily in a 10 gallon aquarium. Fed chick starter currently. Just gave them bird seed and millet spray for the first time the other day.

Okay, my question is growling! Why are they growling at us? Well, not necessarily at us, but when we are in the same room, they growl. If we walk up to the tank, they stop, then when our backs are turned, growl growl. Are they territorial, wanting hens? They are also very vocal with the crowing, which we love. They can hear their parents nearby, but not see them. Thanks for any advice!

I can't answer your question as im new to BQs myself, mine dont growl at me (however i have a male female pair). When we were at the breeders picking up the pair and the eggs I heard one growl it was the cutest! I dont care if they ARE being snotty, ever lil noise they make is adorable.

I esp love the males crow, reminds me of a hawk calling off in the distance...

Mine BQ chicks will be 4 weeks old in 2 days.. so far they haven't been growling.. i've had one crow though wich sounds cute

I'm still learning myself about them.. i have 9 chicks and right now i can only spot one male so i'm just waiting and see if any more crow cuz only one has a bib.. you should PM Jenn * jkcove08 * i got my eggs from her and she knows alot about BQ she's been helping me alot with questions that i have

Thank you for your replies. I hadn't thought of crowing sounding like a hawk-to us it sounds like a lady laughing. LOL

I will PM Jenn, thank you for the suggestion. Birdboy, do you want more of your babies to be males? Just curious.

Monarc, I agree, the growling is very cute, they simply aren't big enough to be aggressive! I mean, really! LOL
Thanks again!

Jenn said the growling is just a bq thing, something they do when they are learning their vocalizations. It's cute!
