BR laying age...

With my hens, it's the opposite. My BR started laying 6 days ago (at 22 weeks) and my PR hasn't started yet (same age). Out of my ten 22 week old pullets (5 different breeds), only 2 have started laying. The second chicken to start was one of my EEs - she layed her first egg today.

I got 7 in September and 6 started laying in Feb. My one holdout, my silly Barnevelder, acts like she wouldn't lay an egg if her life depended on it. Either that or she made a deal with the Easter bunny.

Hey Glendale! I used to live there. Do you live way out or are you just keeping your girls quiet? I used to have 2 or 3 RIR's near 77th and Camelback. Then I went to hickmans and purchased 3 retired layers. Must have been White Leghorns. They immeadiately started to lay for me. They must have been shocked to get placed in a pen on the ground where they could walk around. I don't know what the limits were for chickens in the city. This was early 90's though.

Most of my birds started laying between 20 and 24 weeks. I had a couple that started to lay at 17 weeks and one of my hens was 27 weeks before she started laying. I still have two pullets at 27 weeks now that haven't layed yet. They are all banded so I can tell who has layed and who hasn't.

Hello,
My sister leaves near Seattle (Renton).

I'm near 75th Ave & Bell Rd. - right in the city, but have almost 1/2 an acre of land that is zoned for chickens (no roosters allowed).
Our property also has septic - it was built in the 70s and back then was in the country. We are surrounded by newer housing developments with lots of HOAs. The area has really grown - we have fully developed residential areas going all the way past Pinnacle Peak now.

We did have 3 ducks once while living near 39th Ave & Bethany - we never checked into zoning - we had tolerant neighbors.

Last time I was back, 2004, everything had sprouted up with the Loop 101 and the only difference was there were twice as many drivers doing about twice the speed limit from when I used to live there. Pretty scary! I used to work all over the west side, from Baseline to P.P., so I know all those ares. Now I work all around these areas here and including most of Renton.
