Brace yourselves, feed prices are going to rise!!!!

I will always buy from the local feed store. I believe in promoting local businesses.

That being said, I probably won't replace my hens as they die and I will only keep enough ducks to provide eggs for us. The ones I have marked as pets will be here forever and I am sure I will have those rescues going through here as always.
THe feed is just gettign to much. I found an old receipt from when I got my first 50# bag of feed. $6.99 in April of 2004.
Yesterday I paid $13.45

Quick word for those that want to raise their own corn.

Get it in the ground NOW if you are above KY-IN line, time is running out to get it mature.

Few other suggestions if anyone wants to PM me.

Lazy, you are correct, corn acres are going to be way down this year due to spring, expect yields to be off for same reason, this could be just tip of iceberg. Lot of corn acres are being replanted, that will also bring average yields down.

You should all know, I have been buying from the neighboring town's Feed & Seeds for years. The reason I am now buying from WalMart is because it is closer (um, gas in Oregon is $4.10 a gallon today), and the Feed & Seed's flockraiser went to $15.00 a bag. It is just too much for me to pay and feed my kids, too.

Sorry, but I have a family of 5 and that's how it goes. I won't put my chicken's food before my family's food

Thats why we started doing all the pasture augmentation and now pasture and rotate fields with everything we can. Was a bit up front but with current prices will pay itself off quickly.

Chicken feed here in good ole Alabama the beautiful went up to 11.000 bucks a bag. 50lbs grown in the state. don't have any local to buy from. but I do barter eggs for veggies. I buy local it's closer than wally world.
