Read the label to be sure, depending on the brand, chick starter will come both medicated & non-medicated. Some folks will order chicks from a hatchery that have been vaccinated prior to shipping therefore not needing to feed medicated feed. If they do, it would void the vaccines. So there are two kinds.
Layer feed is for egg laying hens that is started up after the chick grower is completed, around 16 weeks of age. It comes in pellet form or mash which is the same as crumbles.
