Hello,

Our Brahma hen has what looks like a scab on the top of her foot (black/brown area in the photos) with some redness and bleeding surrounding. Today, we noticed a wound on the side of her leg, just above the same foot. It seems like she has lost feathers where the scab currently is. She is a constant digger, so we guess she is just injuring herself and her/others making it worse by pecking at the wound. None of our other hens have any foot issues at the moment. Anyone have any thoughts about what might be going on?

Thanks!

You may want to soak her legs in warm Epsom salts water daily, and then apply some vaseline, mineral oil, or plain Neosporin to her legs. Does she look like she has some scaly leg mites or loose scales? If so, she could be pecking at her legs.
