1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.)

A light Brahma hen about 18 weeks old now. Weighs probably around 3 pound and has not lost weight, is intact getting bigger and heavier.

2) What is the behavior, exactly.

She is sneezing with no discharge, no wheezing and no loss of energy or appetite/want to drink. She just honks every now and then. Her voice is in transition from her chick peeps to her older bird sounds so it’s hard to tell if her usual sounds are any different from usual.

3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms?

Just about a day and a half now.

4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms?

Many of my birds sneeze due to picking at their food and getting dust in their noses but they only sneeze about once or twice and not consistently. All but one have been separated for three weeks from the newly concerned bird due to our fire situations.

5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.

No trauma signs.

6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.

My family and pets have been evacuated due to one of the many fires in California and have been stuck in a hard situation with our birds. Our babies have been subjected to harsh smoke and unhealthy air quail it’s as well as being kept inside for a few days due to the air quality.

7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.

Birds are eating and drinking, enjoying hydrating and nutritious snack as well.

8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.

Poop is normal.

9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?

I haven’t administered anything yet as I don’t want to harm them by administering something wrong for them.

10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?

I would love to be able to treat by myself as money is hard right now after being subjected to mandatory evacuations from California fires, but I would be able to treat by vet though it may be hard on the bank..

11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.

No photo as there is no discharge from not or eyes and no picture of open mouth breathing.

12) Describe the housing/bedding in use.

Housing is very ventilated and bedding is usual sized pine shavings.

Willing to take any and all suggestions and recommendations. These birds mean a lot to me and I would love no to lose them. I am trying to be frugal with funds due to my situation with the CZU Fire and I have another pet who requires monthly treatment already. Thank you guys so much for your help.

Here’s the ladies today in their evac pen took just after play fighting and having some fun.

It may just be from the environment or the smoke, but sometimes sneezing every few minutes can be a sign of a virus called infectious bronchitis. It runs it’s course over about a month or less. There is no treatment. Dust or dusty feed can cause sneezing.

Thank you! I’ll keep an eye on them of course for a couple days and keep them separate from my other birds till they’re healthy. I hadn’t heard of infectious bronchitis cause the usual diagnosis for sneezing birds I see are usually the extremes. Is there anything I could do or add to the water to make them more comfortable or should they be fine as is?
