Thank you for sharing that Tim. It's nice to know that the weight doesn't have to be quite so precise. As long as they're atleast the standard weight or over, your ok.

Not bad! I like the skull width. What line? Looks like a show bird. Do you show?

Tim, Take a close look at the Hackle and let me know what you see please. Don

I see that the lacing is not that great(distinct), too much black, could use quite a bit of improvement. However, I really like the type. You know type is my first concern. I think that bird would win over a better colored less typey bird. Depending on the judge. I would breed from that bird. Tail covert lacing could be a little better as well. Again, over-all I like the bird. Also, better than average yellow leg color.

Tim, the hardest thing to get back besides the head size on the Brahma is the diamond with lacing in the Hackle, If the lacing is not there it may never come back. Don

I have heard that some black in a male chest, will conribute to good colring in the females. Have any of you guys heard this?

Joe

Joe, I have not heard that, but I think It may be true. One thing I don't like about Chad's light males is they have a little too much black in the breast for my liking. However, his females are very well colored. There may be some truth to your comment. It all points back to the fact that breeder birds, and show birds are not usually one in the same. Also, sometimes its necessary to have two lines-one to produce show females and one to produce males. In my birds(lights) it seems like the birds out of a predominatly Neff cockbird produce better males and those from a mostly or all Spence/Williams male-better females. I don't know if ya'll kept track of the eggs/chicks, but 6 SHOULD be better males and 7 better females. Pen 7 was a male that Chad gave me. Pen 6 sire was out of a full Neff Cock on birds I had bred up over the past couple of years and two females I got from Greg a couple of years ago. Observing your chicks from pen seven might confirm or disprove your hypothosis.

Joe, for breeding for female with proper color using the black marked males is a great help. In the female matings the cockerel will be ok until the one year molt and then will have too much color. The real dark undercolor on the female used will also help with keeping the color . I wish we still had access to the old forum info that was on the first and second Forum for Brahma. We went through the entire breeding techniques for the brahma.

You will find that occasionally it will be required that you cross the Light and Buff to keep the color if you lose very much of it. Don
