Hi there, we’ve had a lot of rain in south Uk the last week My 4-5 month old back garden Brahmas are free range and I raise as organically possible. They are our pets and hope to get eggs soon. we’re first timers with chickens.
However with all the rain they appear to have caught a cold- they are making sort of sneezing sounds and some have mucus from this ‘nostrils too’ Please would you advise as to best cause of action? They seem well in themselves and are still feeding well

They are old enough to take care of themselves all you can do for them is to make them a shelter where they could sleep for the night when it rains
Thank you for your reply- when I say free range I mean day time and they have a coop to roost/ sleep in at night. Ok so you don’t think they need any medical attention or if I can add something to their diet to speed recovery? If it were my kids I’d be all guns out with vitamin C and soups and wrapping them up in blankets 😆

You can give then vitamin C for faster recovery but this flu is very common in chickens my chickens have got this two times in the first time i took them to a vet and he told me to not allow them to get wet

Being so feathered it makes sense- I did think they would go under some sheltering when it rains. I’ll get some Vit c into their diet to speed up recovery then
Thanks for the info 😀

I wouldn’t say they can take care of themselves, they need our help a lot of the times. Are there other symptoms? Their eyes good? Breathing good? Is it all of them or just certain ones? I’m sure some forum members will want pictures to better help.

Thank you, no they don’t seem to have other symptoms at the moment- it’s about 5
Of the 8 Brahmas. 4 of them are new to the flock (we had 3 Roos and 1 hen from home hatchlings) and they seem to be arranging the ‘pecking order’ still. Now 3 weeks on they seem more settled together. I do need to get some wormer for them but that’s another thought!!
