Bran vs layers mash

Bran mash is grossly inverted in Ca:P and really has no place in chicken nutrition. You can make treats anything you want. Zucchini, watermelon, grass clipping, weeds from the garden, spent brewing grains (homebrew?). Clean out the pantry and freezer.

Thank you I will try them I do give them kitchen scraps but I didn't know they liked melon :-)

They are eating layers pellets as there primary feed :-)
Layer mash and layer pellets are exactly the same thing. The feed ingredients are ground and mixed. To make mash, they use a finer grind. To make pellets, they use a coarser grind, add a binding agent and run it through a pelletizer. Mash is primarily for layers in cages.

Chickens are omnivores just like humans and can eat anything we SHOULD eat (not anything we DO eat). Tasty things, like fruit and meat are well received.

Anything that isn't easy to bite must be finely chopped so it goes down the esophagus easily. A carrot or broccoli stalk will be ignored but finely chopped will be completely consumed. They don't have hands or teeth.

My Delaware chicks are hot for any soft veggies, rice and potatoes cooked, also for meat if it's raw or cooked with not much spice or salt. What they love, though, is fruits like pears, figs, watermelons that I grow on my place. They go face down in a half of a watermelon and don't come up for air until they have eaten the whole thing. Even the Meyer lemons that I don't use, some of the chicks love the lemons. I 'm convinced that my chicks will eat what's good for them.
