Hello, so I am a new backyard chicken owner and have 4 (4 week old) Buff Orpington chicks. One however, is a male and I will not be able to keep him. I have contacted every farm sanctuary in a 100 mile radius and have been turned down because they are maxed out with roosters. The store offered to take him back but told me he would be taken to the local auction and I'm afraid he could end up in a bad situation (used for fighting). This is very upsetting to me. Anyone know of anybody that would like a rooster (currently still a baby) for there flock? thanks...

Buff Orpingtons aren't likely to end up in a bad situation, because they are so friendly.
But there is a chance that someone will buy him to eat him. I'm trying to find a home for 4 roosters myself!

I would rather have him eaten than used for fighting. The thought of him used for fighting makes me so upset!!

thanks everyone, I hope you are right because the store told me that they would bring him to the auction for me, but once I do that, his fate is out of my hands...

Welcome to BYC!

You can chat with your chicken neighbors in your state thread in hopes someone there might take him...

You can also place an ad in our Buy Sell and Trade section under Animals for Rehoming and maybe someone there will take your precious baby...

Good luck finding him a forever home and welcome to our flock!
