i just got an american game hen that has been with a roo very long term before i brought her home.
she is laying eggs & i thought about putting them in an incubator,
my question is how long can they set before i add them ? i want to collect at least 6 or so & she seems to be laying every other day.
the egg in her box now was from yesterday so if she is gonna lay on a schedule there should be one tomorrow.
we are also going on vacation tues & wont be back till friday so the earilest i can even set a bator up will be sat. will the eggs be ok till then?
i am also thinking about using egg cartons. how often do i need to turn them & how much of a turn? side to side or like 4 times in a 24 hr period to make a full turn?
sorry so long , but thanks for any feed back in advance

im not sure she will.. the old owner said she was a good mother but he got her from some one else & he only hatched using a bator
how long does the eggs stay fertile from old roos? i do have roos but unsure if they are ole enuff ..i did see a light brahama on her ( he is 12 weeks old) & he needs a new home. my intent is to shack her up with my self blue oegb

well if you don't have a fertile roo now, none of them will be fertile, except maybe the one she layed the day you picked her up.

Can't help you much other than that. If you do a search on fertilized eggs you will get many different responses on how long they will last. I think that's one of those "by chance" things.

Hope someone out there has more info!!

I set eggs collected 6 & 7 days after I gave away my roo.
8 of 9 hatched.

Turkey hens are artificially inseminated. This is done once every seven days.
