bread and chickens???????

That sounds like an awful lot of bread to give. I have 25 chickens and I give them a few slices a couple times a week as a treat.

One time I left the remainder of a rotissiere chicken on the lawn for my crows to pick at. When my six bantams found it they pecked at it for a long time! It was sort of gross watching them eat a "relative"

Are you using the bread as a main treat, main food, or ???? Mine love bread, but they don't get it often, and usually if I give them bread it is soaked in milk whey, soured milk, butter milk, the whey off yogourt etc......

2 loaves a day, you must have access to some inexpensive bread, are you feeding white, psuedo wheat, or whole grain?

Yes, it does sound like a lot of bread. I have 275 chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys and guineas and they get 2 loaves of bread that is split between ALL of them (275) and they only get this maybe 1 time every couple of weeks. We can get free bread at our bread store (they call it feed for the farmer's animals) so this is where I get my bread from. I get the whole grain bread.

Hehe, you won't find a single creature that doesn't like chicken! People get pretty freaked out whenever I tell them I feed them leftover chicken carcass, think its cannibalism but they can't tell what it is. After a few hours it looks like it has sat out there for days and the maggots had their way with it, they pick it absolutely clean of every bit of chicken.

That is a lot of bread for not very many chickens. Bread should only be given as a treat, yours are filling up on it and making it their daily meal.

we have chickens in three locations and some of them love it and go nuts and others just kind of pick at it. the chicken didn't die because you fed it bread. we feed our cows bread too. nothing wrong with it. just as everyone said, it's a treat, not their main diet.
