Breakfast recipes for the decaffeinated?

bigmike&nan :

About a month ago I had a really horrible bout of acid reflux - thought I was having a heart attack. After a trip to the emergency room and a boatload of tests the doctor prescribed Nexium 40mg and a long list of DON'TS...
No coffee, no wine, no tomato products, no cigars, no late heavy meals. Heck a fella could go plum crazy sticking to regimen. There are days I want coffee (we make the best espresso from freshly roasted beans) but it's just no cool - I can tell if I need to lay low... So now I have what I make my wife every morning for breakfast: greek yoghurt, a banana sliced, an orange peeled with a sharp knife cut into chunks and a Big handful of blueberries. Really very good and if you ate all that fruit you are doing your body a whole world of good. Occasionally I'll toss a small Big handful of granola on hers to crunch it up. This is so very good and takes a few minutes to plate.

Sounds yummy!! Doesn't the acid/orange and milk/yogurt and acid reflux upset your stomach? :hmm

Oh yeah...fruit is good...why didn't I think of that?

The greek yoghurt replaces all kinds of natural bacteria in your stomach and intestines, the bananas are chock full of vitamin b (natures tranquilizer), the oranges vitamin c and the blueberries are one of the best antioxidants. And no, the yoghurt really soothes, the oranges are sweet and there's not that much acid there - the bananas and yoghurt really soothe... The wife has it every day as part of her Weight Watchers regimen - it really kicks...

And the Nexium really works. I never wanna feel like I did that night ever again, so I am ever so cautious.

Maybe I just have a weak stomach but any orange with any dairy just makes me feel funny. I studied nutrition for a year so I know what's in stuff - I eat fairly healthy already - I just made the mistake of having orange juice with my yogurt one too many times, hahaha!

I'm glad the Nexium works. We think I might have a stomach ulcer so I'll ask my doctor.

Yogurt and granola. Yogurt and fruit. Make muffins up ahead of time--I know you said no muffins, but I cut the sugar in half at least when I make them, my favorite recipe only calls for a quarter cup sugar and makes over a dozen muffins, I prefer them savory vs sweet! I know you're tired of eggs but you could make breakfast burritos up ahead of time and freeze, ditto with french toast--you can pop the toast into the toaster and yum! Smoothies are great. You can search for baked french toast recipes, kinda like bread pudding, and again, just adjust the sweetener to your taste, this always tastes better the next day!

I have the same problem as you-I really don't want to eat right in the early am--but I KNOW I'm suppose to.....so after all these years of having a few cookies or a piece or two of cake with my coffee in the mornings (trying to tell myself that I was getting my protein from the eggs, milk, & flour in that stuff) I found a great oatmeal pancake recipe that is made with wheat flour, oatmeal, & yogurt, and I make a batch of them on the week-end then I put several in a baggie to take to work, and then I just nuke 1 or 2 and top with either a peanut butter/honey, syrup or whatever you like. You could also heat them in the oven or toaster wrapped in foil if your microwave is on the fritz. They really reheat very well and are yummy plus being healthy for you!

Here is the recipe for the pancakes:

Wholewheat Oatmeal Pancakes

¾ cup whole wheat flour
¼ cup all purpose flour
½ cup quick oats
2 tbsp cornmeal
2 tbsp packed brown sugar
1 tsp baking powder
½ tsp baking soda
¼ tsp salt
1 cup whole milk
¼ cup plain yogurt
1 tbsp butter, melted
1 large egg, slightly beaten
1 tsp vanilla extract

Mix flours with baking powder, soda, & salt, add oats, cornmeal & brown sugar, mix & add the melted butter, milk, yogurt, egg, & vanilla. Pour on hot griddle or skillet! Easy peasy!! I also add some ground flax seed to this sometimes & have thought about adding blueberries.
