I’ve got a 9 month old pullet (started laying at the end of September) who has gone broody. Usually I will let one or two that go broody raise a few chicks for me each year, but it’s too early to consider that right now, especially with an inexperienced gal like this one. I have a wire dog crate that I use to break my broodies, it’s raised up on bricks so there’s good airflow underneath. My concern with using that setup is that it gets below freezing each night and I don’t want to be freezing her toes or comb off just to snap her out of broody mode. Nighttime temps are usually in the 20’s, but we’ve had a few nights in the teens. It’s fairly windy where I live, so windchill is a factor too.

Does anyone have suggestions on how to manage this? I’ve considered putting her in the coop at night so she’s got some protection from the cold, and using the dog crate during the day, but curious if anyone has a better suggestion.

I'd try to take her out of the nest when it's dark and put her on a roost bar so she roosts at night. Id try for a few days and see if she breaks.
I'd let her hatch at around 30F. I did last year with a broody pullet and all went nicely.
