I found a wound on my peahen on her breast. It was a large, very hard, brown scab. I soaked it a little and picked off the scab to see what was underneath and to make sure there wasn't infection.
It seemed OK. Pink tissue, not a lot of blood. Can't think of what it was from. She didn't seem sick or anything. And she was eating and moving around. She had been limping for a few days, that's why we finally caught her to look at her feet and legs. But the scab looked older than a few days. Has anyone had a bird develop a scab or wound from roosting? Or maybe something else happened.
I did put a bandage with neosporin on it and wrapped it with athletic tape around her body, under her wings. Although, I think the sensation of being wrapped, may have confused her as she hasn't moved. And I am worried that it will take a long time for skin to grow back and the wound to heal.
Could I use that Spray Kote stuff that is blue and you can spray it on wournds. Or is is better to keep her wrapped.
