Breathing problems?

Not about my cool, but about my brooder. I have 7 month old babies in my brooder. I let their brooder get to dirty (yes I feel guilty and had a panic attack) and cleaned it out about an hour ago. It’s in my garage, and I didn’t want the chicks to get out of the other box I put them in to clean the brooder, so I didn’t open the garage door. I used a new hemp bedding, instead of the wood chips I used to use, and now I’m having a hard time breathing and I keep feeling like I’m gonna cough and my chest hurts and I’m sneezing. My babies are happy, but is this normal?

7 month old chicks don't need a brooder anymore. They can have a safe and secure coop, and a chicken run, or let them free range. I would only use the pine tree shavings in their coop, and depending on how big your coop is, and how many birds you have, clean your coop once a week to once a month.

As far as your other question, if you're having health issues, maybe you should call a doctor, and see what they have to say. Depending on how bad your coop was, it could be from really bad ammonia. I don't know what to do about that, so maybe you should contact a doctor? On further reference, if you're ever cleaning a very dirty coop, please wear a mask to protect yourself from the ammonia.

Oh. Ok. Sorry, I was a bit confused about your post. Sorry about that. They probably should be still under a brooder then. Depending on how big their brooder is, you probably should keep it clean often.

I don’t know if it was ammonia, but (not to be gross) the bottom of the brooder smelt like vomit. It hasn’t even been that many days since I cleaned it. I did see a whole bunch of particles flying around when I was scooping it up in a dustpan though. If it doesn’t get better by tomorrow I’ll call.

Ok. Yeah, I think it was ammonia. You should wear a mask to protect yourself while cleaning something when it's that bad. Hm, you're saying that you cleaned it recently. Maybe you should add extra bedding, or add some daily to make it last longer. I've had some coops that needed to be cleaned daily, and there was no way for me to keep up. So, I just added shavings to the coop daily so I didn't need to clean it as often. It really helped with the smell and everything.

You should wear a mask or something over your face to keep particulate matter out of your lungs when cleaning up around birds.

If you still don't feel well then yes you should go talk to your doctor.
