Breed and gender

About 1.5 to 2 years I didn't even think about checking for spurs
Since hens can get them.. it may not always be an accurate clue.

Just for information sake.. the male gender specific pointy saddle feathers (posted earlier) will not be present in hen feathered breeds.. such as Seabright or Campine roosters.

Some hens can crow, usually quite pathetically..

Still, yours is female.. her eggs should be white.

If you have other white layers and need help to discern if she's actively laying without seeing her do it.. some folks will apply lipstick or food coloring to the vent (after roost) and it will stain the egg on the way out.

At the stated age.. she *may* molt (replace feathers) in upcoming fall/winter seasons.. they don't lay during that time and usually return to lay as day light increases in spring again.
