Well..any thoughts of a RIR rooster?
Do you mean temperament? They have aggressive tendencies to an extent, but I don't think you'll find a more protective rooster, besides a gamecock. If you want a pet though, I don't think you should keep him. My RIR rooster is friendly enough and lets me handle him, but I don't let kids near him because he has shown some aggression when the hens feel threatened. Most RIR roosters, to my knowledge, are more aggressive than he is.
They make a pretty good dual-purpose bird, if you're willing to butcher. I know a lot of backyard chicken owners don't like to do that though

:/ yes temperament. Thank you for your experience. I don't know what Inam going to do. I have kids. Maybe he can teach the dogs to not mess with the chickens? I'm pretty sure the Rottweiler Erik win unfortunately :( ugh..

Well, my boy battled our German Shepherd and won. The dog had some scratches and the rooster lost some feathers, but they're both okay! He saved 5 hens, two ducks, and a young pullet. He was timid as a cockerel, but at just over one year old is extremely protective and strong!
