So a few weeks ago we adopted an abused Barred Rock Roo. A few days later an out of town friend dropped off her RIR hen that has been a solo city pet. Then about a week after that our neighbors gave us a few day old chick that was their single success at trying to incubate a couple dozen chicken and Guinea hen eggs. I never noticed their assortment of chickens before so no idea what this chick may turn out like.

So to start at the very beginning, it was a brown egg. Out hatched a completely yellow chick. By 2 weeks it had its wings mostly covered in white feathers and some white tail feathers. It's now about 2 1/2 weeks old and I noticed what looks like brownish tan feathers coming in on the body/chest. I see brown but its hard to tell and I think there's also white. There's a lot of fluff there still though. Are these feather coming in going to stay or do they fall out and change color at another point? I've heard that it may be a hen due to fast feather development but that theirs always large margins for error... Ill try to post a pic I took a few days ago and update.

He is in a big box for now in the garage, this was shortly after moving it and creating some spillage from his water dish. I promise the chick does not live in piles of poop, he has a large stick/ log thing to practice balancing on, food and water on one half and this is an open area that usually gets dirty the fastest. Of course I took a picture that makes me look like an animal hoarder person lol

Here's our Roo (ollie) and hen, they have done very well together, he was kept in a small wire cage from what we heard before given to some friends of friends who kept him in a small pen for a few weeks before neighbors started complaining about his constant rooing. They quickly asked around and we heard about him and took him in, he had plucked out his tail feathers according to last owners while kept in a cage. They look like they are growing back and he's doing really well free range on our acre. Maria, on the other hand is spoiled. She used to have the run of her yard and doesn't seem to consider dangers like Ollie does. She will go where ever her curiosity takes her and doesn't really care what we think or what Ollie thinks about it. They compliment each other somehow though.
