Breed Confusion: Breeder says one thing... Chick says different. Marans Veterans Needed!!!

Honestly, I would never go to that person for chickens again. To me, it doesn't sound like she really knows what she is doing anyway. Sorry you didn't get the chicks you paid for. =(

Yea. I'm starting to figure that out. When I brought up my welsummer being a male, she told me it was to early to tell. wait a couple months and if it starts crowing... i can bring it back. Even though Welsummers should be someone easy to sex. I brought up the V on the head (soft v) no eyeliner. huge comb, and the black feathering coming in on the chest. I didn't convince her bc she said that out of 200 chickens she can sex. maybe 3 will come back roos. grrr.

To be honest. She claimed she had cuckoos. Her website claims she is working with Bev Davis, Green Fire Farms, and Wade Jean lines. But I also had questions about my Welsummer from her being a Roo that she feather sexed on site and my "barred rock" with pink legs and Cuckoo markings. You can see my other posts here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...and-cuckoo-is-black-sexlink-help#post_9173222. I don't know what to think anymore. Look at my Welsummer that she still says is a pullet: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/678996/4-week-old-welsummer-pullet-or-roo/10#post_9175621. I feel like I'm in a big mess! lol. Here is what I was suppost to get from this lady: 2 Ameraucanas, 1 Barred Rock,1 Cuckoo Marans, 1 white orpington, and 1 welsummer. This is driving me crazy! lol

if she truly breed any cuckoo marans she should know that the white comes in as they get their wing feathers in it doesnt take time for their true colors to show. were they all free ranging together. at this point i dont think shes being truthful to you at all and she probably realizes that you are a novice and feeding you bs. did you see any of the parent stock? the ameraucana maybe ee's can you post pics on a new thread of all the chicks and label them according to what they are supposed to be? i will make it easier on everyone here instead of jumping from one thread to the other looking at all the chicks

and on top of it, I came to her as a novice and asking questions very gently and it seemed like she was getting offended as if I was questioning her chicken skills.

No, she was getting defensive because you've caught her in a lie (or several). She's stuck you with several roos, and one that's not even a breed you wanted. I'd plop them back in her lap, ask for a refund and take my business elsewhere.

x2 I would try to get your money back and not go back to her again. She is definitely jerking you around because she knows you don't have much experience.

also if you can find pics of the breeds you wanted to show her you know what the breeds as chicks look like that might help to.

Holy barnyard mix, Batman! That is not a purebred bird. If I were to guess, I'd say it didn't even have a pure Marans parent on either side (the white leg gene is dominant). And that black comb is..... you just can't get that outta Marans and Welsummers.

I hate it when people take advantage of chicken newcomers. Chickens are such a wonderful hobby, there's no need to complicate it. I doubt that the lady is willing to back off of lying and give you a refund at this point. At this point, I'd report her to the better business beaureau, and stick to buying from the folks here on BYC. The sellers here are super dependable and are really upstanding. Plus their birds are gorgeous. Sometimes I go to the auction forum to press my nose against the glass

on the White Orpington are the feathers even coming in white they look like they are gray (lavender)? yellow chicks usally turn out to be white chickens...the am's look more like they might be ee's what color are the legs i cant really tell, the barred rock looks like a cuckoo instead and is a cockerel, the welsummer is a cockerel, and the "marans" looks like a sex link...

LOVELY!!!! j/k

yes, the "white orpington" does have some grey on head and flank. I did want a lavender orpington but she said the lady before me bought all her lavenders up and that she had the one I got and said it was a "white". Her feathers are coming in white with a tiny amount of grey. its mostly her baby fluff that has the grey.
