Two weeks ago I bought 50 chicks at TSC! They were labeled Cornish rock X straight run, witch is what I wanted. We are in our second year of business selling meat. We killed 150 birds last year and hoping to double that this year. So my problem is I'm not convened that the birds I bought are not actually Cornish rocks!! They are white, but they are still quite small, they are feathering a lot nicer the a Cornish rock and the biggest problem is I can feel their keel bone when I pick them up! They don't feel heavy muscled and they don't have that "dirty dipper" look to them! My question is: is their any what to make sure this early? My biggest concern is that I now have 50 white Plymouth Rock or some other white hen.

I agree, we need some photos.

If they do turn out to be white Rocks, then the males will be fairly meaty at 14-16 weeks or so. The females will be less meaty, but could be sold for $15 each (at least where I live) as started pullets once they hit 18 weeks.

A week or so ago, a TSC clerk told me the BREEDS of their chicks and ducklings were "Bantam, Straight Run, and Pullet".

I was amused but asked again. "Thank you, but I mean, are they RIRs, Cornish X, or ?". I got the same answers.

So.......you may have very well have got the wrong chicks. Pics will definitely help but, until you get them up, maybe this might help.

The things that really stand out to me aboutCornish X is their:
1. thick, "tree trunk" legs that they need to hold up all their weight later on
2. ravenous appetites - they LIVE to eat!
3. broad skulls they get from the Cornish breed

To me, those three things scream Cornish X.

Oh, ouch. LOL

I think the TSC birds are definitely "buyer beware." Unless you know exactly what you're looking at, you are pretty much taking a gamble on whether those employees put the sign on the right bin.

Sorry I have not posted to fill you in on what's going on or posted pics. I went back to TSC and asked about it and the guy their said I know exactly what happened they were miss labeled and you have 50 straight run leghorns!!!! OMG!!! Well they gave me 50 Cornish rocks to make it right but they didn't want their leghorns back. I thought I'd be giving them away foe mounts to come but my awesome wife found someone to buy them all!! So it's worked out quite nicely for us.
Thank you all for your in put it was quite helpful!
