No no silly, wild type doesn't mean they are literately wild birds, it means their genetic coloring is based on the wild type gene

Ok, I admit that though I've had chickens for a good many years, I know very little about genetics. Thanks - I learned something.

So, finally got in touch with the breeder who sold me the chick. She got the hatching eggs from another breeder who she sent my pics to. So, neither breeder knows what kind of chick I have. Weird. The person who sold her to me thinks it is a mix of 2 breeds. Guess it could have been a mistake or maybe on purpose.

She is indeed rose combed....that throws me off a little, but I'm still thinking Buckeye in spite of the inconsistency.

Yes, the resemblance to a Buckeye is definite. Can't wait to see what shade of brown eggs she lays.

I got this chick from a breeder at about 2 wks old. She said it was hatched from some eggs she got but it wasn't the breed she expected. She didn't know what it was & didn't say what breed she expected.
It is about 12 wks old now - I'm thinking female but not sure. Looked like a Welsummer as a chick, before I noticed the rose comb.
Anyone have any ideas? I can't seem to find any breeds with this coloring and a rose comb.

I think it could be a Buckeye, I think they have a rose comb.

I was gonna guess Rose Combed RIR (yes it does exist).
But the chick color is wrong so it couldn't be

I understand the person you got her from not knowing, but I don't understand the breeder that sold the eggs not knowing. I know unintentional mixes happen, but you still know what birds you have. Did she say if the other breeder has Buckeyes?
