Breed Mix?!?!

While I think partially crested birds look kind of neat, it's not a goal to add them to my flock. Nor is it a goal to add the V comb. I was merely stating that if that WAS what I had in my flock (obviously, I'd like them, or I'd not have picked them to start with!) If that's what I had, I'd not hesitate to cross them, and would probably be pleased with the outcome.

I am not at all fond of crested birds. I just think they may be more predator prone and more apt to be picked on by flock mates. Not that I have any experience with that, cause I've never had any! But, the V comb would be appealing to me. I'm adding BE this spring, for the pea comb genetics. I think you should go for it. You've got nothing to loose, and just might love the outcome. How well have your BE's laid for you? As for letting your friends pick the parents of their chicks, IMO, that will give you nothing but head ache. Simply let them view your flock if they wish, being aware of bio-security issues, and offer the chicks on a first paid, first to pick offer.
BE meaning buckeye? my buckeye hen lays beautiful brown large eggs. the yolks are huge. she lays one per day.

Yes, BuckEye. Thanks for the endorsement. I keep wondering if these birds will be good additions to the flock, or duds. Where did you get yours????
i got mine from a woman off of craigslist. she had kept the buckeye (named Little Red, originally Brownie)for a while. Little Red is truly a wonderful addition to the flock!
