Breed of chicken?

Help a gal out... 4 weeks old part of "Hatchery Choice Rare Breeds" from Hoover's Hatchery. I have a few who look like this.

Possibly Black Australorps.

Oh man... That would be disappointing to me since that wasn't part of the list of "rare breeds" I was supposed to get.

I mean they're good layers and all. I used to have them and I had a wonderful Australorp Rooster, but I would have paid 20 bucks less for the standard package if they were going to send me Australorps.

This Hatchery Choice Rare assortment is based on availability on your hatch day from any Rare Breed we offer. This assortment will not include any bantams or standard laying breeds. Breeds that could be included in this assortment: Barnevelder, Blue Andalusian, Blue Laced Red Wyandotte, Buff Brahma, Cochin, Columbian Wyandotte, Cuckoo Marans, Dark Brahma, Dominique, French Black Copper Marans, French Cuckoo Marans, French Wheaten Marans, Lavender Orpington, Light Brahma, Midnight Majesty Marans, Olive Egger, Prairie Bluebell Egger, Salmon Faverolle, Sapphire Olive Egger, Silver Lakenvelder, Speckled Sussex, Starlight Green Egger, and Welsummer.

Is there any chance it's a Maran?

They look like my midnight majesty maran that I have from the same pack.

Your bird definitely has yellow skin indicated by the bottoms of it's feet. It's also definitely black. There are no breeds on the rare breed list that meet this criteria. Marans have white skin and so do Australorps (even though they're not supposed to be in that assortment.) The hatchery does carry Jersey Giants however. Send them an email to ask with a picture of your bird. Another member on here got sent Coronation Sussex from Hoover even though they were unreleased to the public, so Hoover is making some interesting choices. Perhaps they now consider Jersey Giants rare!
