Breed of Geese? Black Goose?

We did ask the person we bought it from and well their answer was 'I don't know'

We in South Eastern TN and bought her from a 'hatchery' (more like death house) in middle TN. We are very unpleased with the care of their animals and bought her as she had a cut and infection on her 'hip'-'leg' area. That is being treated by our vet, but we are stumped on what she is. The person that owned the place says they raise Brown Africans, Emblems, and White Chineses, but when we asked to see the parent stock they proceed to tell us they buy their babies from other people and resale them, then I ask what they raised, and all they said was it was pure stock. I asked if she could of been a wild hyper etc, but they said nope they don't have wild geese, but what could they know as they buy them from other people

To me she looks like a Candian Goose, Very Slender built. She was the only black one in the group of all white babies. She stood out that is why we noticed her leg. I am pretty sure she is a goose, as her build (we had a pet covie, and she was heavier bodied closer to the group) and she doesn't have any of the features of a duck, not sure about swan though, would have to look that up...

Is there a wild black goose in Australia Oregon Blues? If so pics on that too please! I only heard of the black swans coming from down under. Anyway I hope the little rascal makes it ! 110 Organic Can you tell we all live for any and all mystery birds on BYC huh?(And photos too)

destinduck, I've seen photos of it and it must have been here on BYC and most likely in the goose section. I don't know where else I would see photos of geese. I'll be darned, though, if I can remember what it is called.

I'd love to get a hold of a black goose so I could breed genuine blue geese.

I went to Google and searched. Do a search for Magpie Geese or Magpie Geese Australia and you will find photos of black and white geese.

Oh yeah. I knew about them. But they have that pointed bill thing going on.LOL so I didnt mention em. They are real odd looking birds . Yea thats why I thought this is a neat thread.In search of the black domestic goose.

Will post shortly, but I hate to say we might never know what she will grow into, she took a turn for the worse this morning as it looks like a stray dog got into their pen last night... We lost 2 of our Welsh Ducklings and our blackie girl had a pretty nasty cut on her face. We took her to the vet, he is treating her for stock and the cut. I just hope she pulls though, our kids and my husband were pretty tore up about it.
