Hi all,
So we're trying our hand at incubating again. Currently I have 14 Muscovy eggs (of questionable viability as the mother is a fairly new, young layer) and 8 King Quail eggs that may or may not be incubated as well. I'm looking into getting some more fertile eggs of ducks or chickens (maybe both), and am looking for opinions on people's favourite breeds. They need to be fairly quiet, so the neighbours don't complain, and if ducks, preferably not crazy messy (my mum doesn't like the mess they make.) In chickens, I am looking for good laying hens with good personalities so we don't have rooster attacks again.
And good-lookers will immensely help in swaying my parents to actually let me buy them ^.^
Also if anyone has any fertile eggs or ducklings/chicks for sale in Victoria, Australia, let me know.
Cheers

I have Welsh Harlequin (my profile pic is what a female looks like) and I picked them because they're known to be very calm and friendly. I raised them as babies that I bought from a hatchery and they've turned out both calm and friendly. They're messy, but they're ducks, and only messy around their pool, as is normal for ducks. lol You can also Google the "friendliest" duck breeds, but I firmly believe it's more dependent on how much time you spend with them and how much you handle them. I had two Mallard drakes who would walk right up to me and let me pick them up and put them in my lap. I bought them from Co-Op, straight run, and just the 2 of them. So they got A LOT OF ATTENTION from me.
My WH girls were shipped, and I bought 6 at time, so they mostly bonded to each other. Just an example to show it's more how you raise them, rather then their breed specific personality. Good luck!!!

A lot of people have good waterfowl in VIC, I'm sure their is a website you can find about poultry shows nearby, and you could go see the different breeds of ducks and maybe talk to some of the people who show their birds. Their would be someone who could sell you some show quality ducks.

For ducks if you want quiet don't get call ducks, they are very loud. Muscovies are probably the quietest breed of them all, and they are a dual purpose breed. But if you want ducks for eggs only khaki Campbell's are good except they can be a bit loud.
