Breed recommendation, please

I have Light Brown Leghorns (2) mixed with RIR's, Barred Rocks and Hamburgs. I don't have any aggression issues with my 7 chickens. The lowest on the pecking order is a Hamburg, probably because she is so much smaller. I think each chicken has it's own personality. Mine are are very peaceful too. I do, however, prefer the Light Brown over the White. I just like their coloring and they tend to blend into the landscape better which I'm hoping helps hide them more from predators (hawks). My Leghorns also produce way more eggs than the RIR's. I really like them. I wasn't going to get them because everyone said Leghorns are "flightly" but mine follow me around and come running whenever I call them. They are exceptionally friendly (although I did spend alot of time with them when they were young). My Leghorns are always the first at my feet when I have the treat bowl in hand!

With our first flock of 3, we had two GLWs and a Leghorn. Seemed to be at the bottom of the pecking order...poor thing. Not too loud, but maybe just her? Trying my luck with a bantam one this spring.

I've made a decision never to have one of a kind anymore. I have the same problem with a Hamburg. She is alone and now the lowest on the pecking order. Everyone pushes her aside. All the others are in pairs and they always stick together. From now on, any chickens I get will always be a minimum of 2 of a kind so they have a "partner". There seems to be alot of truth in the old saying, "Birds of a feather flock together".

Well, this is only my opinion, but most hens that lay white eggs are a little on the...crazy side.

There's so many brown egg layers that are fantastic chickens. It's really the better way to go.

I just know if I got a leghorn it'd try to eat me up! It's my luck! Always bad! Out of 5 chicks I got 4 roos, on more than one occasion!

Well, they ARE pretty! Maybe the Leghorns are just getting a bad rap from those I know. And I am hoping to expand our coop a bit in the spring, maybe 2 brown leghorns are in order ... should have plenty of white eggs then! (I do pysanky - Ukrainian Easter eggs - it's a folk art that can be done on any color egg, really. But white eggs give you so many more color options. My interest in this craft - and our love of fresh eggs - is how we got interested in chickens in the first place. Now that we have a few chickens, we're hooked!)

Here's a couple of eggs I did last year - the egg on the right is a brown egg.
