Breeder hasnt sent papers

A rabbit does not have to be registered to be shown in ARBA sanctioned shows. It can't even be registered until it is 6 months old, how could there be junior classes (juniors are by definition younger than that)? Shoot, a rabbit doesn't even have to have a pedigree to be shown, it just needs an ear number.

It's a shame that she hasn't sent you the pedigrees yet. I am assuming that you want to register them at an upcoming show, is she aware of that? While I can understand your reluctance to seem to be nagging her, I see no harm in emailing her a carefully worded reminder that you are working with a deadline, and your address "just in case."

It is not unusual to sell a rabbit without the pedigree on hand at the time of the sale. We have all done it, mailing the pedigree within a week is a courtesy we all expect. The rabbit gossip mill works overtime, she's going to get a reputation that she'll find hard to shake if she does this too often.

If she doesn't send you the pedigrees, it isn't the end of the world. Pedigrees don't guarantee quality, and most pet buyers couldn't care less. Some breeders charge more to print up the pedigree than if they are selling the rabbit without it; I don't hold with that practice myself. You might find a few people that will be willing to pay more for rabbits that are registered/registerable, but people won't be beating your door down to get them. In the long run, it probably won't make much difference, money-wise.

A rabbit without a pedigree can't be registered, and without registration, it cannot become a Grand Champion. I have owned several rabbits that earned the necessary "legs" but could never be granded, because their pedigrees weren't complete. For me, the biggest cost of those unrecorded ancestors was in the form of "braggin' rights!"

Hopefully, she'll get those pedigrees to you, soon. (And good luck with your showing!!)

Correct me if I'm wrong,.. But don't all rabbits need to be at least six months old to be registered? Wouldn't the torn ear be a DQ and prevent that rabbit from being registered or shown? Of course you'd still need his pedigree so his offspring could be registered.

I heard that the tear varies from judge to judge and as long as its not growing white hairs around it (its not) its not a DQ.

Next time you see her craigslist add on email her through that with a different email address of yours she does not know. Just inquire about the ad and wait to see if you get a response. Maybe even go as far as to go again and meet before saying who you are and that way you can say surprise in person and question where the papers are. You will also have the email showing that she responded and then would not no more after she knew it was you for papertrail for small claims court if that big of a deal to you I have no idea what the price value is on registered rabbits.

If you try the email first you can wait a while and then redo a meet up by inquiring on her ad again or have someone else that really wants some and just go along maybe a friend or family member....and say oh yeah what about my papers when you get there play stupid like you were just going with your friend for a ride but since its her?

Hope that helps!

Its not that she hasnt answered my emails, she has
She said she was sorry just been super busy..

It just kind of makes me mad that she has plenty of time for her big money maker but puts the side projects on the back burner.
...If you cant handle both dont do them both kinda thing...

You have every right to hound her. You lived up to your end of the deal when you paid her price. She needs to provide the registration papers to you. I'd be concerned that the rabbits are not eligible for registration.

I'm not sure if you can register them yet or not? Since Flemish are a 6 class breed, you might have to wait until they are 8 months? If they make Sr weight at 6 months you may be able to register them, I'd email a registrar and ask them to be sure.

The ear thing may or may not be a DQ, as long as it doesn't "Visably detract from the rabbit" its not, but its really a judgement call on the judges part. Again, you'd have to check with a registrar to see if you can register it.

You don't need to register a rabbit to show it, it just needs to meet the breed standard and weight requirements for its age.

I think to register it needs to meet the breed standard and be free of disqualifying faults, meet Sr weight and have a complete pedigree (This means all the rabbits on the pedigree need to have ear numbers, weights and colors)

I sent her an email the day I started the thread...
She said she was sorry and would get them in the mail.

STILL NO PAPERS!
